George was stricken with polio as a child and wore leg braces. He was one of the first children successfully treated for polio at Doernbecker's Children's Hospital in Portland. Per family oral history, as a teen he lied about his age and joined a ship's crew to Alaska. He worked in shipyards during World War II, and lumber mills.
In later years, he lived in Vernonia, Columbia County, Oregon before moving back to the Beaverton, Washington County, Oregon area (just west of Portland). His remains were put to rest 17 Feb 1970 in the Sunset Hills Crematorium in Beaverton.
