Served in World War II first asa medic, then as a staff sergeant in the Burma-India Theater.He sustained head injuries in an auto accident there which put him in a coma for a month and resulted in a metal plate being put in place in his skull. He was killed in an auto accident later, due to head injuries; the rest of the family was with him in the car, but received only minor injuries.
