Renamed: Wakefield (1941) United States troopship. Suffered extensive fire damage in a North Atlantic west-bound convoy, September 3, 1942. She was salvaged and towed to Boston, where she was rebuilt. Recommissioned as a troopship in April 1944. Since World War II has remained under government ownership. Laid up in the reserve fleet. Sister ship: Washington.
